Does this sound familiar?
- The console turns on, but the TV says no signal
- It blinks blue, or it shuts off in the middle of a game
- The fan got very loud, even on the menus
- The disc drive grinds, won't read or won't take a disc
- It won't turn on, or it beeps and then shuts off
What usually goes wrong with a PlayStation
No picture. This is the big one. The HDMI port gets bent or torn loose, and the console looks dead while it's actually fine. We have a whole page on PS5 HDMI port repair, and PS4 ports get repaired the same way.
Heat and noise. PlayStations pull a lot of air through their cases, which also means pulling in dust, pet hair and carpet fuzz. When the fan's roaring or the console shuts off under load, it often just needs a good cleaning. Our overheating page explains what we do and how to help prevent it.
Disc drive trouble. Grinding, refusing discs and read errors are all common, especially on consoles that get moved around. See our disc drive repair page for details.
Power problems. If nothing happens at all, it could be the power supply or the outlet, or a part on the board. Try another outlet and a different power cord first, because that's an easy way to rule out the simple stuff.
Why not send it to Sony?
If your console is under warranty, you should check with Sony first. Past that, mailing it means boxing it up and doing without it for a while, and many repairs cost more than people expect. Bringing it to a local shop lets you talk to someone, get an honest opinion and pick it up nearby. For a lot of Anoka families, that's the whole point.
Fast, friendly great service. Pleasant to work with, knowledgeable and efficient.
Questions we get a lot
Can you fix a PS4 too, or just the PS5?
Both. The PS4 and PS4 Pro are still a big part of a lot of households, and they often just need a cleaning or a new HDMI port to keep going for years.
My PS5 keeps shutting off. Why?
The usual suspects are overheating, a power problem, or a software issue. Note what it does and when it does it, such as an error message or a certain game, because that helps us narrow it down.
Is it safe to use Rest Mode?
Generally yes, but if your console has crashed or corrupted data after Rest Mode, try turning it all the way off for a while. Tell us about it when you bring it in.
What should I do before bringing it in?
If it still works, back up your saves using PlayStation Plus or a USB drive. Bring the console and the HDMI cable you use. You don't need to bring your games unless the disc drive's the problem.
