PS5 HDMI port repair in Anoka, MN

If your PS5 powers on but the TV says "no signal," the HDMI port on the back of the console is the first thing we check. We replace damaged ports right here in downtown Anoka, so you don't have to mail your console away or buy a new one.

The back of a white game console with a bent and damaged HDMI port

Does this sound familiar?

  • The console powers on and the light looks normal, but the TV says "no signal"
  • The picture cuts out or flickers when someone bumps the cable
  • The HDMI cable feels loose or won't go all the way in
  • You can see bent metal or a crooked port on the back of the console
  • You've tried another cable and another TV input, and nothing changed

Why PS5 HDMI ports break

The HDMI port is a small metal part soldered directly to the main board, and it holds up a heavy cable all day. That's a lot of leverage on a few tiny solder joints. It usually goes during ordinary life: the console gets moved to clean behind the TV, a kid catches the cord on the way past, or it tips over with the cable still plugged in. One hard tug can bend the pins inside the port or crack it loose from the board.

The rest of the console is usually fine. People come in expecting bad news about the whole PS5, and most of the time the problem is one part about the size of your fingernail.

Check these first at home

A few minutes of testing could save you the trip. Switch to a different input on your TV, swap in another HDMI cable, and try the console on another TV if you have one. Our guide on fixing a PS5 or Xbox with no picture walks through it step by step, including how to start a PS5 in Safe Mode and reset its video settings.

If none of that brings the picture back, it's time to let us look at it.

How the repair goes

  1. You bring it in. Tell us what happened and when it started. No appointment needed.
  2. We open it and inspect the port. We look at the port and the board around it under magnification, then tell you what we found.
  3. We replace the port. The old port comes off, the pads on the board get cleaned up, and a new port gets soldered on.
  4. We test it on a TV. You get your console back once it's putting out a steady picture.

Now and then the damage goes past the port. There's a small HDMI chip on the board behind it, and a hard hit or a power surge can hurt that as well. If that's what we find, we'll explain what it means before going any further, so you can decide what makes sense.

How to keep it from happening again

  • Unplug the HDMI cable before you move the console, even if it's only a few inches.
  • Leave some slack in the cable so its weight isn't hanging off the port.
  • Run cords where kids and pets won't catch them, and keep the console somewhere it can't get knocked off.
  • Never pack the console in a bag with the cable still attached.
Fast, friendly great service. Pleasant to work with, knowledgeable and efficient.

Questions we get a lot

How do I know it's the port and not my TV?

Try a different HDMI cable and a different input on the TV, then try the console on another TV if you have one. If a second TV works, the problem is on the TV side. If nothing shows a picture and the port looks loose or bent, it's very likely the port.

Will I lose my games or saved data?

Replacing the HDMI port doesn't touch your console's storage. Your games, saves and account should be right where you left them when you get it back.

Do you fix both the disc and digital versions?

Yes. Bring whichever PS5 you have, and we'll open it up and take a look.

How long does the repair take?

Longer than a phone screen, because the port has to be soldered onto the board. Call ahead or stop by, and we'll give you a realistic time based on what's on the bench that week.

Is an HDMI repair covered by your warranty?

No. It's the one repair we always mention up front. When a port breaks again, it's almost always because of a bump or a pulled cable, not because the repair failed. Everything else we do comes with our warranty, and the tips on this page are the best way to protect the new port.

Should I call Sony first?

If your PS5 is still under Sony's warranty, yes. Opening the console yourself or having a shop open it can affect that coverage, though physical damage to a port often isn't covered anyway. Once it's out of warranty, or Sony turns you down, we're here.

Bring it by. We'll take a look.
