Tablets break a little differently than phones. The bigger the glass, the more it flexes, so a fall that a phone would survive will shatter a tablet screen. Batteries get worn down from being left on chargers for months at a time. And charging ports pick up everything from cracker crumbs to whatever happened in the back seat of the car.
The good news is that most of it can be fixed. If it's the tablet that keeps the kids busy on long drives, you'll want to know before it dies for good on the way to the lake.
Tablet speaker repair
If your tablet's sound has gone quiet, crackly or one-sided, check the speaker holes for lint first, then check that it isn't stuck on a Bluetooth speaker somewhere in the house. Kids' tablets often have sticky residue in the openings. If it's still wrong, the speaker itself may have failed, and we can open the tablet and replace it. Bring it in and play something for us, because hearing it tells us a lot.
Tablet software problems
A tablet that hangs on the logo, keeps restarting or won't finish an update doesn't always need a part. We can often get it going again with a software restore, and we'll tell you first if that means erasing anything. If your child forgot the passcode on an old iPad, bring proof it's yours and the Apple ID if you have it, and we'll go over what's possible, since Apple's activation lock is something no repair shop can bypass.

Questions we get a lot
Do you repair school-issued tablets?
Check with the school first. Districts usually have their own repair process and rules, and you don't want to get crossways with them. Tablets you own are no problem at all.
Should I bother fixing an older tablet?
Often yes, especially if it's now the kids' tablet or the one that reads recipes in the kitchen. We'll tell you honestly if a repair doesn't make sense for how old it is.
How long do tablet repairs take?
It varies by model. One customer's iPad was diagnosed and fixed within three hours of drop-off. If we need a part, we'll tell you when to expect it.
Will I lose anything stored on the tablet?
Screens, batteries and ports don't touch your data. If a software fix might erase something, we'll tell you before we start.
