Does this sound familiar?
- Cracks across the glass, even if the phone still works
- Lines, blotches or black areas on the display
- Parts of the screen ignore your finger, or the phone taps things on its own
- Glass splinters coming off onto your thumb
- A black screen, but you can still hear the phone ring
What happens to a cracked phone
The glass on top is only the first layer. Under it are the touch sensor and the display panel, bonded together on most modern phones. When the glass cracks, those layers often take a hit too, and that's why you might see lines or dead spots that get worse over the next few days. Dust and moisture also start to creep in through the cracks.
If your screen is only scratched or cracked in one corner, it can feel silly to bother. It's still worth a quick look, especially if kids use the phone or if you're holding it against your face all day. Tiny glass splinters are no fun.
What to expect at the counter
Bring your phone in and show us what happened. We'll confirm the part, tell you how long it should take, and get to work. Plenty of people take a walk downtown while they wait. Before you get it back, we test the touch across the whole screen, along with the speakers, cameras and sensors that sit near the display.
The back of your phone may be cracked as well, and many phones have glass on both sides. If so, we can talk about replacing the back glass while it's here.
How to save your next screen
A case with a raised lip does more than any other single thing, because it keeps the glass off the floor when a phone lands flat. A tempered glass protector can take the hit instead of your actual screen. And try not to keep it in a back pocket, since that's how a lot of phones get bent and cracked when somebody sits down.
Rob was very courteous, helped me right away. Replaced my screen on my phone in forty five minutes. Plus he put on a screen protector for me. I definitely would recommend this company. Thank you Rob
Questions we get a lot
Can I keep using a cracked screen?
For a while, maybe. But cracks spread, loose glass can cut you, and moisture and dust get in through the gaps. A small crack today can become a dead touchscreen right when you need to call someone.
How long does it take?
Many screens take under an hour. One customer had hers done in forty-five minutes. If we need to order the part for your model, we'll tell you when it's coming, often the next day.
Do you put on a screen protector?
Ask us when you come in. A good protector is cheap insurance, and our customers mention that we've helped them get one on.
Will I lose anything on my phone?
A screen replacement doesn't touch your photos, apps or messages. If the phone can still back up, it's worth doing beforehand anyway.
Is a new screen covered if I drop it again?
Our warranty covers the repair itself, so a part that fails is on us. A new crack from another drop isn't, so we always suggest a case and a protector while we have your phone out.
