Does this sound familiar?
- The back of your phone is cracked or missing pieces
- Glass splinters come off onto your hand or snag your pocket
- Your case has been holding the back together
- The camera lens cover cracked along with the back
- Wireless charging got unreliable after the drop
Why iPhone backs are tricky
For years, Apple glued the back glass directly to the frame of the iPhone, so there was no simple panel to remove. Repairing one means carefully softening the adhesive and taking the glass off in pieces, and you need to protect the wireless charging coil and the camera while you do it. That's the heat tool in the photo above. Starting with the iPhone 14 and some later models, Apple changed the design, so the back is easier to replace on many of them. So how long your repair takes depends on which iPhone you carry.
We aren't hiding anything with the photo, by the way. It's a real picture from our real bench, taken during a real repair.
What to bring and what to expect
Bring your phone, and tell us whether the camera lens covers are cracked too, since those can be replaced as part of the job. If the screen also took a hit, we can look at replacing it at the same time so you aren't making two trips. Remove your case before you hand it over, and watch your fingers on those loose bits of glass.
We check wireless charging, the cameras and the flash when we're done. A phone that's been opened is less water resistant than a new one, so treat it a bit more kindly around sinks and pools.
Fast, friendly great service. Pleasant to work with, knowledgeable and efficient.
Questions we get a lot
Can I just keep it in a case?
You can for a while, but glass keeps flaking off inside the case, and gaps let moisture and dust into the phone. Sooner or later, a phone with a broken back gets a bigger problem.
How long does it take?
It depends on your iPhone. Newer models with removable backs are quicker, and older ones take more care. Stop by or call with your model, and we'll give you a realistic idea.
Do you do this on other phones?
Most modern Samsung and Pixel phones have glass backs too. Those backs are generally easier to change than an older iPhone's. Call and ask about yours.
Will wireless charging and MagSafe still work?
They should. The charging coil and magnets sit just under the glass, and we take care not to damage them. We test wireless charging before you pick it up.
Is back glass covered by your warranty?
If the repair itself fails, yes. If the phone gets dropped again and the new glass cracks, that's new damage, so a good case is well worth it.
