Does this sound familiar?
- The thumbsticks drift, or they don't return to center
- The screen is cracked, or the touch has stopped working
- The USB-C port is loose, or it won't charge
- The fan rattles or whines, or it runs louder than it used to
- The microSD card reader stopped reading cards
Why these need a different kind of shop
A handheld gaming PC is a laptop that's shrunk down and built like a game controller, so it has laptop problems and controller problems in the same small case. People take them everywhere, and that exposes them to drops and pocket lint. They also get hot. A chain store may not know what you're talking about, and shipping it back to the manufacturer can leave you without your games for weeks.
We like these machines, and we can take the time to look at yours properly.
Common repairs
Stick drift. It's the same basic problem as a drifting controller, though the stick modules differ by device. We replace the worn stick and test its centering before you get it back.
Screens. A cracked screen on a handheld is a big repair because it's bonded in. We'll tell you what it involves on your model before we start.
USB-C ports. These handle power and everything you dock. They take a lot of strain when you play with a charger plugged in. If yours is loose, stop using it before it gets worse.
Fans. Your handheld pulls in a lot of air for its size. A rattling or whining fan may just need cleaning, or it might need to be replaced.
Before you bring it in
Back up your saves. Steam Cloud covers a lot of games, but it isn't universal, so check any that you care about. Please bring your charger, too. If your handheld is still under warranty, check with the manufacturer before having it opened, as that could affect your coverage.
Fast, friendly great service. Pleasant to work with, knowledgeable and efficient.
Questions we get a lot
Which handhelds do you repair?
Steam Deck, ASUS ROG Ally and Lenovo Legion Go are the common ones. If you have another, such as an MSI Claw, call us and we'll see what parts are available.
Can you upgrade my Steam Deck's storage?
The Steam Deck's internal drive is replaceable, and a bigger one is a popular upgrade. We'll help you choose a drive that fits, and talk about how to handle what's currently on it.
My ROG Ally's microSD reader stopped working. Can it be fixed?
This has been a known problem on some early ROG Ally units, and heat is thought to be involved. Check with ASUS about your warranty first. If it's not covered, bring it in and we can look at the options.
Are parts easy to get?
It varies. Valve sells many Steam Deck parts through iFixit, which helps a lot. Parts for other brands can be harder to find. We'll check for your model and tell you how soon we can get them.
